Resolved Question: Algae problem, need help?
i am currently breeding my angels in my 29 gallon tank, and the fry are growing, but today as i was feeding them i have noticed that there is this brown gooey slime on my tank walls and filter, some parts of i are green.
i know its algae for sure, but i want to know what types of algae eating fish that are friendly with angels?
someone once told me that angels have some sort of slime on their body that attracts algae eaters so they usually kill the angel.
so i would like to know which is an algae eating fish i can keep thats angelfish friendly.
thank you.
Resolved Question: I have an ill angelfish. She suddenly has black spots on her body, she won't eat or swim and has a bent fin!?
Hi
I have an angelfish that looks really ill, but I don't know what's wrong with her. Over night she has got black spots all over her body. She won't eat or swim. Also a while ago she bent her fin, but wasn't looking like it was a problem so I left it alone. Could this be causing her pain now, or is it something else?
Resolved Question: New 200L tank - fish ideas?
Hi,
I am upgrading one of my Tropical tanks to a 200L and moving all my fish from the 50L tank and then getting more fish for the 200L.
This is what i have at the moment.
4x Guppies
2x Platys
2x Glass catfish
2x Striped Glass catfish
1x Red tail shark
1x Yellow loach
Now when i do the upgrade, i am wanting to add these fish.
3/4x clown loach
1x Elephant nose fish.
1x plec of some kind.
Maybe a smaller angelfish or 2.
Will these be fairly compatible, im not worried about baby fry being eaten - i have a breeding tank for that. But i am just more on about the compatibily of the elephant nose and angels, with everything else.
Is this going to be over stocked? Or do you have any suggestions of more fish that i can add.
Thanks for your time,
ps, i do realise that elephant nose fish arent the easiest to keep, but im pretty competant at fish keeping, so im sure i would be fine.
"They will grow quite rapidly from this cute size to around 5 inches (13cm), thereafter the growth slows somewhat, but with good care in a large tank, they can easily reach 8 to 12 inches (20 - 30 cm)" I have read they stop growing so quickly after 5 inches, so they should give me plenty of time to do another tank upgrade, which i am hoping to do in the next ew years anyway! Always wanting bigger!
Also i never said anything about getting a BGK! (as much as i would love one, i have done lots of research and desided they are not for me at this moment in time)
I wasnt overly bothered about the angels, more just wanted something to 'pretty up' the tank a bit!
Do you have any suggestions of medium-large fish that i could put in this tank with the fish i have listed in my current tank.
(also i was planning on getting a few more Glass catfish as i no they like to shoal, just forgot to add it to my list!)
Resolved Question: Please help! what's wrong with my angelfish?
Hi,
I've got 8 (I used to have 10, 2 lost to sickness) angelfish in a 100 gallon tank. I don't have anything else in there, because they ate the plecos, so I didn't dare trying to add anything else.
They do lay eggs every now and again, which I artificially raise my selfe as a hobbie.
They are very aggressive, especially when they find a spot to lay their eggs.
I have had them for about a year, and I wouldn't say I'm the smartest about fish, but I have had smaller tanks in my life with easier fish (guppies, bettas, goldfish etc...)
These guys have been really, really healthy! then I went on a trip, and my dad was caring for them.
when I got back, one had popeye and one had a large cut by it's gills. these two did not eat, and starved. so now I have 8.
they all have some torn fins, some have similar cuts by their gills (where the muscle is sticking out), some have had little cuts, which healed fast.
I've been treating them with melafix, which helped. then I ran out and tried maracyn-TC fast dissolving powder. that didn't do any thing but turn the water yellow, thick and foam on the top, which made feeding hard!
I've been doing water changes to get the out of the tank, and started adding more melafix.
I'm getting worried because one of the fish, now isn't swimming straight. he's going in a circular motion, like cart-wheels. (to the side)
so when I fed them, he couldn't get to the food and lost interest!
Please help me! I don't know whats wrong!
I clean their water 1-2 time's a week on a regular basis.
a pair layed eggs 2-3 days ago, and some are cleaning the slate, and will probably lay eggs in a day or two, while some of the fish are half dead!
What could I be doing wrong? I know the fins are torn because of aggression and lot's of fighting. I thought the cuts by the gills where too, but things are really strange.
Any ideas what could be causing this? or how I can stop it before I loose the cart-wheel fish and the others?
Thanks for reading, any tips or ideas appreciated!!
Resolved Question: What should I do, please help=[?
So I woke up this morning to find out that my new angelfish and my red parrot [I suspect haven't been getting along, =\
My angelfish's huge pretty fins were destroyed, my angelfish is only about an inch and a half long, and the only extra tank I had was a 3gallon so I set that up as a hospital tank. I know, so small =[
whatever now I have a fan on top to circulate the water and I keep a thermometer in it to monitor the temperature. What should I do to help him? Is there a specific medication or anything? He's eaten this morning when I fed them... what should I get for him??
Resolved Question: Sudden Flying Fox illness?
I have a flying fox who has been in healthy condition since i got him about 4 months ago.
Yesterday he was appeared fine: eating, full of color, etc.
Today i checked on him and looked to be a wreck.
His scales have lost most of their color and appear frayed.
Any ideas on what kind of disease this could be?

Resolved Question: Heater and gravel for 33 gallon aquarium?

Voting Question: New 10g freshwater tank, inherited fullgrown angelfish & catfish from friend, now seeing a brown algae?
The tank has been set up for just shy of 3 weeks... I took a full grown angelfish and a catfish from my friend who wanted to get out of "fish keeping." She previously kept them in a 10g tank with a large goldfish as well. They all lived happy and healthy for about a year. Goldfish recently died, though I did include my large goldfish in the tank when we set them all up here. The last few days I am noticing a brown algae growth on the two ornaments that I took from her tank (I rinsed and brushed them off) and also the tips of three new artificial plants that I recently purchased as well.
Other than the brownish growth, everything else looks good. The water is clear, everyone is eating and finishing their food w/in 3-5 minutes, and I did a partial water change about a week ago. Just not sure what to make of this brown algae and if I should attempt to remove it or hope that it is something that will pass on it's own. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance!
