Resolved Question: Anybody a Dwarf Gourami Expert?
Hey everybody Ok, well i bought a Dwarf Gourami about a week ago and it is still so shy whenever someone will go near the tank or make any sudden movements, he will dash in his little rock and only come out after everyone has stoped moving or has left the room. even when i feed them he dashes in the rock and i have to wait till he comes out so i can drop food down the back and make sure he has food. I have a 100L tank and it is quite busy, in it i have 2 red eyes, 6 guppies (male+female) and quite a lot of guppy fry in weed, 3 rummy noses, 4 Neon tetra, 2 Black neon, 3 Glowlight Tetra, zebra and leopard Danio ( 4 of each) and thas it. it sounds a lot but my Gourami has plenty of swimming space. so please can anybody help because he is so beautiful and i want to look at him all the time. Oh yes and the thing is that in the pet shop i got him from he was in a community tank much like mine and he was not shy at all.
Resolved Question: Looking for correct info again?
STOCKING FOR GOLDFISH 75 gal. minimum, 20 gal. for each added after. Best suited for ponds-- Common, Comet, Shubunkin, Butterfly Tail, Jikin, Oranda, Ryukin. 55 gal. minimum, 20 gal. for each added after-- Black Moor, Fantail, Veiltail, Pearlscale. 30 gal. minimum, 10 gal. for each added after-- Bubble Eye, Celestial Eye, Lionchu, Ranchu, Lionhead, Pompon. Find out what kind you have, and get the proper tank size. They should have double filtering (a 60 gal. filter on a 30 gal. tank), they should have a ton of aeration. 25% water changes should be done bi-weekly via replacing what was taken out when vacuuming the gravel. There should be no live plants. There should be no other fish (particularly small ones) other than your goldfish. They should only be fed as much as they can eat in five minutes every other day, and flakes should be avoided. Goldifish, however, prefer to have no substrate in the tank. STOCKING FOR A BETTA Betta are tropical fish. They need a 5 gallon space without other fish. Males are to be kept alone, and females can be kept in soroities. Shrimp may be kept provided there is an ample amount of hiding places, as well as Mystery snails. They prefer to have an under gravel filter, though a low current filter will do. They are not very messy, and do not require any kind of extra filtering. They do, however, require a weekly 25% water change. This is best done by vacuuming the gravel and replacing the water that is taken out in the process. They need a heater set to a constant 78F, and a thermometer to make sure the temperature is right. Gravel, sand, or frosted glass stones are all acceptable substrate, though it's best to use sand if you're putting live plants in the tank. A tank hood with a light that can be turned on and off on a 12 hour schedule will do a lot of good with health and activity. Lights shouldn't, obviously, be turned on and off rapidly. Silk or real plants are prefered because plastic plants will tear up their fins pretty fast. Real plants are best because they aerate the tank. You should have a few plants that break the surface of the water, as well as a few medium and short plants as well. They like to swim through and nestle down into the plants. A small cave should be provided, though care should be taken when selecting any decorations. Take a pantyhose with you and run it over the decorations you're thinking of. If it snags, so will your bettas fins. In my opinion, for a planted tank, small halved terracotta pots look the best. They should be fed small betta pellets (3-5 per day) for 5 days (these can be swapped with blood worms to days), half a shelled pea the 6th day, and nothing on the 7th day so that they can digest correctly. oscars? STOCKING FOR A TEN GALLON 1 male betta, 4 mystery snails 1 male betta, 5-10 ghost shrimp 1 male betta, 2-3 african dwarf frogs 1 butterfly fish 1 Male Kenyi cichlid (sand substrate, no live plants) 2 tanganyikan shell-dwelling cichlids (1m/1f) 2 honey gouramis (1m/1f) 2 blue killifish (1m/1f) 2 pygmy killifish (1m/1f) 3 dwarf oto cats 3 DWARF puffers (1m/2f) 3 pygmy gouramis (1m/2f) 3 sparkling gouramis (1m/2f) 3-5 platies 5 female bettas 4-6 male guppies 4-6 male endlers livebearers 4-6 dwarf rasbora 6 emerald dwarf rasbora 6 pygmy hatchetfish 6-8 white cloud mountain minnows (these are coldwater) 15-30 cherry shrimp 15-30 crystal red shrimp 15-30 bamboo shrimp 15-35 ghost shrimp 4-6 pygmy/dwarf/albino/Julii corys may be kept as bottom dwellers with: gouramis, platies, guppies, endlers livebearers, rasboras, hatchetfish. 3 fiddler crabs. 1 male and 2 female. These are best kept alone in their group, as fish are part of their natural diet. They need a half land half water setup that consists of brackish water and sand. They eat shrimp pellets. No barbs, no danios, no neon tetras (or any kind of tetras), no blue/gold/opaline gouramis, no goldfish, no parrot fish, no oscars, no angelfish, no piranhas, no plecos. PLEASE ANSWER ONLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE HELPFUL IN SOME WAY. Dear DanielC. All of your info is wrong. Goodbye.
Resolved Question: HELP GUPPIES DIEING of green spot on them/red stretch mark things?
A couple or several days ago, I noticed one of my female guppies was tinted a bit more greener or yellowish than the rest of the guppies. She also had light red stretch mark-looking stripes vertically where the tail is connected to the body. She looked like she had a disease so I kept her in a separate bowl from all the other guppies. She stopped eating and then died in about 2 days. THEN this morning another female guppy looked exactly like the one that had died of the weird red stripes on her and the weird color change, so I put her by herself in a bowl away from others. I was just hoping no one else would get this disease after her, but then just now, after a few hours of taking the diseased female from this morning, another female from the aquarium died all of a sudden in the tank. She had a dark green spot on the side of her neck... It did not look like what the other two had. I don't know what to do.. Should I clean out the entire aquarium? Is buying a cure to put in the water from a pet store my only choice to stop the disease from killing all? Thank you very much.
Resolved Question: Which is best suited to my tank? Cardinals or Neons?
Hi!! :) I have a 20g tank that's cycling right now. I want to have 5 Male Guppies, 4 Julii Cory, and a school of 6 Tetras. I love the bright colors of Glofish, but after looking up Zebra Danios, I found put they get 2 inches big, which would be too large to add 6? Anyway, so I want either Neons or Cardinals. Here are the Pros and Cons I've hears about: NEONS- PROS: Slightly smaller Less Expensive Bit hardier than Cardnals, though Tetras are sensitive in general CONS: Less coloration Doesn't school at tightly CARDINALS- PROS: More coloration Schools Tightly CONS: Less hardy, more delicate More expensive Bit bigger As for my tank: It's a 20H and has sand as substrate. Lighty planted with all fake plants except for a bamboo stalk. There's a few decor pieces here an there, and basically that's it. Thanks!!! Sorry if it was too long! The pros and cons took up a lot of room.
Resolved Question: Will my other fish die if my crab dies in the tank?
Just recently my crab died and my fish got sick. 2 Guppies died, and 6 Platties died after the crab died. And looks like one of my Koi fish is getting sick cuz he is starting to swim sideways. I'm very scared for my fish. Any suggestions on what i should do? I changed the water and they still seem to be very weak. Thank you for your time.
Resolved Question: Good thing to do with unwanted fish?
First off, it's not my fault. My boyfriend is like a 5 year old when we go into the lfs. "Oh, look at this one, he's AWESOME!" Nevermind the fact that it will out-grow our tank and eat all MY fish in the process.... I have a 55 gallon freshwater, 3 guppies, 2 dojo loaches, 1 blue lobster (crayfish, full-grown, 5inches), 1 betta, 5 neon tetras, 3 serpae tetras and 1 green spotted scat.... And he decided to bring home a Dinosaur Bichir. (Eel) Which can get up to 20" and will eat everything it can fit in its mouth! Should I just take it to the lf guy I always go to, (he's been in business in my area for over 40 years, he knows his stuff) and just tell my boyfriend it died? Again, with his 5 year old complex, he never takes care of the fish after he buys one, anyway, so he wouldn't know. Yeah, he was the cause of the scat as well, but I named him and love him. :( Tank has been slightly brackish since it was established about a year ago, and the guppies have been the longest survivors, so I think they're cool with it. And yes, I WILL be keeping an eye on the scat...

Resolved Question: How do I stop my daughters fish from dying 4-6 hours after they have been added?
We've lost 7 fish since mid-April, most of which died in the first couple of hours of being added to the tank. First we had a 1 gallon beta fish tank, which we lost 2 Beta and 1 Gold fish. We traded it in for a 2,5 gallon tank thinking the 1 gallon was a killing field. We only looked to add 2 fish total to the tank, knowing we had the size per gallon constraints. We've had the water tested, and while some of the elements were considered on the high end, all were within tolerance according to the shop. The latest two to die have been an Angel Fish and a Dalmation Molly. OK, the angel fish was a mistake in purchase long term, so it really doesn't count - but because it was small it wasn't a size issue when added. I didn't realize how fragile the fish was because I use to have them when growing up and never had an issue. But the Molly was a shocker last night. We did everything we thought we were suppose to do: 1) floated the bag to adjust the temperature, 2) bled off some of the water before adding the fish, 3) added the fish. We added water stabilizer with the stress enzyme to ensure the water was acceptable to the fish's transition. The Molly is suppose to be a hearty fish, which was what we discussed with the shop helper. The tank has one fish alive in it, which psychologically must be mess now that all these fish die around it. It looks like it is stressed - breathing fast, jittery. It is a fancy guppy and has been the only fish to take to the tank. This has to be a shock in transition issue, doesn't it? My kid is really getting a negative experience on this, and I am tempted to pull the plug. But I am also trying to balance the quitting issue as well. Any help is appreciated.
