Resolved Question: 55 gallon fish tanks?
my cousin gave me one it needs sealing though, when it's ready for fish(freshwater only) whats the best way to set this up , cycle it etc. can i use water and stuff outta my already established aquarium. here is what i have in a 20 gallon long I wish to move some of them to the 55 gallon i have a betta thats very aggressive so for some odd reason the tiger barbs he's in with don't bother him he tends be kinda too mean to them actually., 2 silver dollars tiger barbs 6 of those a ruby shark, chinese algae eater, 3 corydoras, one 3 spotted gourami and various ghost shrimp. would 55 be to big for a betta or no with the depth of the water. etc? once those go in the 55 will that be overstocked as the 20 probably already is. also there was a lizard in this 55 gallon so whats the best way to clean that safely for fish. which is why i reseal tanks after lizards used them cause of germs and stuff.pumps, heaters etc what will i need as this one will be the largest tank to date for fish i have ever had. i am going to get a pennplax metal stand for it too. let me know whats good if i can get more fish in it too let me know that i plant to put alotta the rocks outta the 20 in the 55 to start cycling it. .

Resolved Question: live plants in my freshwater aquarium?
I've had my 30 gallon aquarium set up for about 3 years now, and Ive had my rainbow shark and a pictus catfish the whole time. I recently moved the catfish out and put in two angelicus loaches. I have fake plants in there mainly bealcause when I had put real ones in, they got torn up. the pictus cat was very active, and I know he did most of the damage to them, but did the rainbow shark also contribute? I would like to put in real plants, but I don't want them to get torn up
Resolved Question: Hw much aquarium salt we should use per gallon? Does aquarium salt hurt live plants?
We have freshwater 75 gallon aquarium with 2 brown knifes, 1 ghost knife, 3 Bala Sharks, 3 congo tetras, 1 rainbow, 4 small chiclids, 2 clown somethings, 1 albino frog and 3 fish i don't know what they are. We came home tonight and the light was off in our tank the fish were all gathered at the bottom. We turned on the light and it appeared that the fish were twitching. one of the tetras was laying on the bottom of the tank, he eventually got up and all the fish are now swimming around normally a few twitches here and there but over all ok. Were they just waking up or out they sick??
Resolved Question: Question about fish care?
So, recently I decided I wanted to get a tropical aquarium for my room, so I'll probably be getting it for my birthday. One of my neighbors has a small shark type thing in his aquarium, it's really cute but his is freshwater. I can't find any sites that will help me, but basically I just want to know if there are saltwater sharks small enough for a fish tank that will go in my room, and what they eat and how long they live. Also, if anyone knows how long yellow saltwater puffers (I don't know what they're actually called, sorreh) live, and what they eat, I hope you'll tell me. Thankies.
Resolved Question: What would be a good addition to my 30 gallon tank?
Right now I have a 30 gallon and a 10 gallon, freshwater aquarium. My 10 gallon has 4 fancy guppies, 3 male and one female and a single chinese algae eater.
My 30 gallon has a needlefish that is 4" long, 3 baby angels, a small clown loach, a bala shark and a chinese algae eater.
What can I add to my 30 gallon aquarium? I love exotic and strange fish. I don't like simple, boring ones like danios, tetras (most), or gouramis. Anyone have a similar setup and have a suggestion? Where is a good place to get these fish? There is a petsmart here and a few small places but is there a place online? Is that not recommended?
And one last thing, the chinese algae eaters, I just read that they turn evil when they grow older. I love my other fish and these guys are only janitors. Does anyone have experience with them? Good, bad?
Thank you, in advance!
Huhu, Maddie, thank you. I believe that you two are the only ones that stuck to the guidelines. I appreciate the advice. Maddie, I love black ghost knives. I wanna get one but they are $20 a fish.
Darwin, thanks for your standard answer but have you heard of something called experience? I have had my needlefish and angels together for a while now. I have a larger tank lined up for future use. You didnt answer my question.
None of you, except Huhu and Maddie, answered my question! I didnt need an evaluation on my current set up. I chose my fish and that's my opinion. I only want ideas for more fish.
Thank you.
Resolved Question: What should I get instead of a Pangasius?
I have decided that I would really like to get sharks. I have a 40 Gallon freshwater tank ready to go... was going to buy some pangasius, but it seems that there is a lot of discussion in the aquaria community about the fact that tank size stunts their growth and they are a poor option for home aquariums. I would like to get a bigger tank soon, but obviously can not dedicate my house to these beautiful creatures.
Will probably move to a 200 Gallon tank within 2-3 years.
Can I still consider pangasius catfish? (ID Sharks)
What should I consider instead?
Please limit suggestions to dark colored cartilaginous fish. I am looking for something with a smooth calm disposition, not quick and anxious. (semi aggressive)
Resolved Question: Why do my fish keep dying?
I have a 45 gallon freshwater aquarium. I set it up (added water, dechlorinator, conditioner, and finally beneficial bacteria), let it run for a full week and added only up to the amount the lady at the pet store advised (5 fish). I bought a ghost knife, 2 cichlids, a bala shark, and a black molly. The lady told me to wait 3-4 days before adding anymore. I brought them home and let them sit in the bags for about 20 minutes before releasing them. They got along really well and seemed very healthy and happy.
A full week later, I went back to the pet store and got 4 more fish (striped rafael catfish, pleco, rainbow shark, and a leporinus fasciatus) and an african dwarf frog. The ammonia levels stated to increase within 3 days and the rainbow shark and leporinus fasciatus got ick. I started treating with fungus clear.
The next day I went to petsmart and they advised me to use Ick guard instead. They day after that, I realized that the ghost knife was dead and the catfish and pleco also had ick. Agian, I went to petsmart to get the water tested and got more advise. I raised the temp from 76-78 to 82-84 degrees, added aquarium salt, kept using the Ick guard, and stopped feeding.
The next day, the leporinus, rainbow shark, and catfish died, but the ammonia levels did start decreasing. I did a 15% water change, kept the temp up, added aquarium salt, Kept using ick guard, and still wasn't feeding them. I did add some ammonia clear to help temporarily since my fish seemed stressed.
Today, I lost one cichlid and the bala shark. The pleco no longer has the white spots, but I can't find the molly, cichlid, or the african dwarf frog (I'm pretty sure they are hiding or dead). The aquarium was so cloudy I couldn't see in there, so I did another 25% water change. I haven't used the ick guard and am thinking about lowering the temp. (BTW- when I do the water change, yes I am using water conditioner and dechlorinator and waiting 15 minutes before adding beneficial bacteria) I have tested the water everyday and everything is normal except the ammonia levels that are pretty high, but slowly decreasing.
This is really sad and I am trying desperately to save the few remaining survivors!!! I need HELP!!!
Thank you fish expert. It was my fault for not doing the research myself, but I trusted the lady at the pet store when asking if the fish would be ok together and what steps to take. I will be doing more research once I decide to add fish again. Should clean everything, add new water, and start over, or just do a small water change and let it cycle?
Resolved Question: What are the start-up costs for owning an aquarium?
By 'aquarium', I mean salt- and freshwater, with fish and stingrays, sharks, those kind of fish. Can anyone help me out?
