Resolved Question: What would be the best tropical fish to get?
I just got a 2.5 gallon fish tank. I have prior experience with fish. I am looking for some a little bigger than a tetra that would be compatible with a blue beta.
Resolved Question: Need information about African Dwarf Frogs?
I am going to purchase a 5 gallon aquarium table. I want to have A mixture of a few African Dwarf Frogs and some freshwater tropical fish. I understand they need a heater. I need information about feeding the the frogs and the fish. Also I was wondering what fish would be calm and compatible with the frogs. BEST ANSWER GETS THE POINTS!!!
Resolved Question: Stocking Questions - 40 gallon tank?
I have a 40 gallon tank that currently has nothing in it. Right now I'm just doing research (like a responsible fish owner!) on what I'd like to put in it. I'd like to set up a tropical freshwater community tank. After lots of research I still have lots of questions. I'd like my center piece fish to be angelfish. I've read that they do best in pairs. I'd like to get a pair of one type of angel fish and one pair of another type. Would two pairs of two different species of angel fish get along? Which species would co-exist the best? Is it difficult to sex for a male/female pair? I know not to get two males but would two females do ok together of each species? I'd love to have one pair of gold and one pair of marbled/koi angelfish. I've read that each pair of angel fish need 4 gallons, so that's 8 gallons taken up by my angel fish. Next I'd like to get a school of 3 upside down catfish. I've read the maximum size is 4" so that's 12 gallons taken up by my upside down catfish. I'd also love to get one Striped Raphael Catfish. I've read that they sing at night - Does anybody know exactly how loud this would be? I live in a rental situation and don't want to have to re-home a fish due to noise. Maximum size 9" so that's 9 gallons for this catfish. I would love to get a gold weather loach, but I've read that they would be uncomfortable in a tropical tank. Does anybody have any experience with this? It seems they would be comfortable up to 77 degrees F, would they be ok in a tank with my angelfish? Max Size 12" so that's 12 gallons. If I can't get a weather loach I'd like to get a school of Yo-Yo loaches. Max size 5" so 15 gallons. I'd also love to get panda coreys. I've read they need at least 6 and they get about an inch so that's 6 gallons. I've also had my eye on some mollies, but I have questions about them as well. Many websites list mollies as a compatible tank mate for angel fish but when I research Mollies they need salt, and angel fish do not want salt. So do mollies need salt, or not? Are they compatible with angelfish or not? Also I know that mollies are schooling fish, but I love the dalmatian, black, and silver mollies. Do I need to get at least three of each kind, or can I make a school of each of these varieties? Max size 3" so that's at least 10 gallons for a school. Obviously I can't get all of these fish. My ideal set up would be the 2 pairs of angels, 1 Striped Raphael Catfish, 1 golden loach OR a school of yo-yo loachs, plus a school of either panda corys OR a school of mollies OR a school upside down cat fish. What do you think?
Resolved Question: Looking for an Algae Eater for my Tropical Aquarium?
Hi, I'm looking for an algae eater for my tropical fish aquarium that would be compatible with the following: Blood Red Dwarf Gourami Glass Blood Fins Panda Corries Peppered Corries Harlequins Any ideas are welcomed. Well I got some Apple Snails and looking for some Ottos to put in but the fish stores around me don't have any at the moment. Thanks for all your advice.
Resolved Question: How many average sized fishes can I keep in a 37 gallon tank?
::I am going to raise a tropical freshwater aquarium ::If so do you think DISCUS FISH -2-3 NEON TETRA-5-6 HARLEQUIN RASBORA-4-5 DWARF GOURAMI- 1 MALE&2 FEMALE would these be compatible and any other compatible and peaceful fishes you can add THANKS A BUNCH:]
Voting Question: Starting an Aquarium? Fish experts! Calling all fish experts!?
OK, my family and I are building a new house. I really want my new room to be unique and really inspiring to my tastes. Now, I have most everything picked out for what I want in my new room. Even the different murals that will be going up on each side of the wall. Anyways! I really would like to have an aquarium. I have tried to do some research but it's really hard figuring out which fishes would suit me best. So, I am hoping I can answer some of these questions about what I want, and than maybe you fish experts can help me from there? Do you want large fish or small fish in your aquarium? Well I was hoping to have a nice mixture. I know fish will eat each other so I was hoping to have some really gorgeous medium ones, and a nice gentle giant. I'm a writer, so I would really like the fish to be unique. Do you want freshwater, brackish water or marine fish? Not sure the differences in all of those. But, I do know that they will be in a medium sized self cleaning tank and I want a variety in colors and behaviors. To you want tropical or temperate water fish? I have seen pictures of tropical fish and I fell in love with them. The issue with that is I am only 13 and this is my first fish attempt. I am trying to do my research and from what I know, even though they are prettier, they are harder to take care of. So, for now I am just gonna keep it with temperate. Do you want one species of fish or several species of fish in your tank? Definitely several. I love the idea of beautiful fish swimming around in a tank. One species does not appeal to me at all. I love to watch fish swim, and watching fish of all the same color just doesn't seem very fun. Even if you want only one species of fish in your aquarium, do you want one variety or several varieties of that species? (Not all species are available in multiple varieties, but some species are available in a wide range of different varieties.) I said before I want several different species. If that same species comes in different varieties as long as they look unique than that is totally cool with me. Are you more interested in interesting and attractive coloration, or in intriguing fish behavior? Ugh, this is hard.....Is there any way I could get a mixture? I love the thought of a peculiar fishy swimming around....But at the same time, I would love to have beautiful colors :) Are you looking for high maintenance fish, or lower maintenance fish? I will have a self cleaning tank, and feeding them everyday is no issue. Because this is my first tank, I would rather them be low maintenance. Mainly because if the fish requires a lot of special attention I might not do it right. Or I might get busy with school. I'm not the kinda person that would get an animal that I know I would not be able to care for. That's just wrong and inhumane. Do you want more active fish or more clam and sedentary fish in your aquarium? I would like the giant to be kinda calm. Than the medium ones be a mixture. I definitely want at least 2-3 active fish Are you interested in aggressive fish or more peaceful fish? Peaceful. I don't like the idea of my fish killing each other. I would not mind having 1 semi-aggressive fish in there just to be a twist, but if they really aren't compatible with the rest of my fish than I could go without. How much do you want to spend? Well, I don't mind putting out a lot of my money for the all together cost. I don't want to spend over 30 dollars for some rare fish that might not live. This IS my first tank, so if I mess up and some end up dying I don't wanna have to waste my money replacing it. If the fish is known for surviving in numerous conditions, and it fits what I want. Than I don't mind dishing out my saved money. I got these questions off of a fish website. I hope my Q&A helps you fish experts figure out what would be best for me. Also, what would be a good amount of fish in a medium tank? Could someone give me the link to a good quality medium sized tank? Please don't give me just one fish, give me combination's. I want combination's because you guys know what fish are compatible better than I do. Unless the fish is just, pretty much good everywhere, environment and other fish I definitely would like you to post more than one. As a side note. Please do not use my age as an issue. I am very young, I do agree, but I already have animals that I am fully responsible for and I take pride in the fact that I love animals and I am a responsible young lady. Yes, I am looking for about 20-50 gallons. On that range I hope to get some really nice combos. PS nobody mentioned anything about the big fish I wanted? with the other medium ones.
Voting Question: What tropical fish can live together?
What tropical fish are compatible together and can live in a 10 gallon tank? I'm aiming for colorful, vibrant tropical fish.I especially love angelfish and Korans
Resolved Question: What other fish are compatible with a male betta? Also a question about tank cycling!?
I have a 20 gallon cycling now with goldfish for 45 days. (Do I REALLY have to cycle my tank this long?! LOL) I'm planning the fish I will get after I take them back to the store. I really enjoy the beauty of the male betta, but I want to be able to have a nice selection of other compatible tropical fish.
Voting Question: good starter fish for tropical aquarium besides zebra danio?
Setting up a 20 gallon tank that has been seeded with old filter and gravel. Just want to know what are other good schooling fish for the cycling process besides danios? i want to add a dwarf gourami and some corydoras so fish that would be compatible with them would be great thanks in advance
