i have a 20 gallon tank with one gold severum in it. i thinks its male. but he picks on my smaller oscar. and the oscar picks on it. obviously my oscar is going into a different tank once i start getting small tropical fish but i need some advice from a professional please Merry Christmas

Just wondering coz i was thinking about getting a small fish tank of about 30 gallons but with fish in it that can become tame, doing things like taking food from your hand or recognizing you when it sees you. Preferably something that lives on its own but i don't mind. Ideally i would have got an oscar but the tanks cost too much... Thanks

i recently bought my son a 125 litre aquarium for tropical fish. yes it has everything heater filter etc. its been running for the week the bacteria build up. he wants to know what fish he could have in there. he like bigger fish. but not like oscar big. like about 8-15 cm long. or angel fish. thanx. my son, jake. it is about 8 centimeteres short of 3 foot. the measurments are 80 cm by 40 cm by 35 cm. hope this helps

Like I've posted in a few post recently... I had just aquired a tank from someone who obviously didnt know that much about fish (they kept 2 Oscars in this 55 Gal. who only lived for about 2 yrs. and when I purchased the tank, they had three 8" Tinfoil Barbs as-well as the 14" Pleco and a 5in. pinkish looking Cichlid, so the tank was overstocked even then.) I've been contemplating on getting another goldfish, as my current one is in a 75 Gal. at my mothers, and I dont intend on moving the tank to my new place, as there's really no room. The tank that I recently just bought is a 55 Gal. rectangle tank. And currently, only the Pleco AKA Dragon lives in it. I've been told that you CAN put Goldies in with Plecos, but then I've heard that you cant. The reason being, is because Goldies secrete off some sort of "chemical" that can kill Plecos. And another obvious reason is Plecos are "Tropical" and Goldies are "Cold Water". I was then wanting to get a few Angelfish, but were told that they might mess with Dragon when it becomes their "breeding time", and they pair off to mate. Im not too keen on small schooling fish like I've also mentioned in a few previous posts. Im into more "interactive" fish. Such as Oscars. But have decided to opt that out. So my questions are... Can Plecos and Goldies live together? If not, what other fish should I get to stock my tank? If you've got a tank, give me your personal insight on different types of fish you have, this will hopefully help me in my decision making process... SO hard to choose.

So my new 55 gallon tank is on the middle of a fishless cycle. The nitrate is just begining to go up so I figure I have at the most a few weeks left before its safe to begin adding fish. I have only been really into keeping fish for a few months. I had a nightmear with my Goldfish and almost lost her but thanks to allot of help from you guys and many hours reading on line I got her into a nice 10 gallon tank and nursed her back to health. I have a 30 gallon tank she will be going into as soon as she is strong enough and will add one more goldie to that tank. But in my 55 gallon I would like to have some differant varieties. I am wanting to stick with peaceful fish because I really don't want to deal with fights. But at the same time don't want a tank full of Tetras like you see all the time. I have wanted to get an Oscar But I know you have to be very careful what you put with them. I have though about a Gold Dojo loach with some fancy guppies and a few red velvet sword tails. Do any of you have any suggestions that would get along great and be beautiful together? Also if I go with schooling fish how many do I need minimum and how much space will they account for? Thanks all! Any other suggestions or warnings when starting my first tropical community would be welcomed too. Anything to save me the stress I went through with me Goldie!!
