Hi, I just decided to clean up my small fish tank and get a fish to live along with the frog in the tank. I had neons in the tank before because its a small tank (like one of those heux tanks that you can sit on a dresser or something). But the store I was at didn't have a good selection of freshwater fish.. I saw the black moor and thought that would be a nice fish to have. Since I plan on getting a muuuuch bigger tank soon. I saw how big they can get and I'd like to have a fish that will stick around for awhile. Anyway, I have in the small thing now for a few weeks cause hes still a baby. But will he be okay with the water frog? They seem to be doing fine? The frogs alittle scared right now. Also, are there any certain things I should do for the black moor like his environment, diet and any health probs they usually get? I'd appreciate any tips. I also saw he can live in a tropical setting too, which is best for them?

I'm new to this tropical fish stuff. but in my credit i have done a lot of reading on it. One thing is troubling me, I bought my tank 50L , washed it out, added clean stones, filter, heater, added a plant, added 48L of fresh water and the added five goldfish. On the second day they started to die, and from my readings they were dieing from ammonia possoning (gilling at the bottem of the tank, red gills, and blood streeks in their tails). being concerned for my fish going from health the death at a rappid rate, and having no way to proform tests, i removed the suviving fish to a hospital tank at 11:00pm, they are currently recovering their now. The strange thing is, after i went and got the tests, and tested the water a 9:30am the next day the ammionia was less than 0.1 the nitrate and nitrite = 0 and pH = 7 or 7.1. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, about 4 years ago I bought five small, short-finned zebra danio to keep in a 10 gallon tank. 3 years ago (a year after I bought them), I left on vacation for 2 months and while I was gone my friend watched the tank for me. By the time I got back two of the danio had died and one was sick, I don't know what they had. The third danio died directly after I had returned from vacation, leaving me with only two zebra danios. About 6 months later a different friend decided she did not want her two fancy male guppies any more so I told her I would take them for her. I put them in the tank with my two remaining zebra danios and all seemed fine. Now, it is 4 years since I bought the danios, 3 years since half of them died, and 2 years 6 months since I added the guppies to the tank. The tank has always had a heater, filter, and bubbler. I check the ph levels every week when I replace 25% of the water. And I clean the filter every month. The fish are fed TetraFin Tropical Flakes once a day. The reason I worry is because in the past two weeks their coloring has faded, now you can barely see their stripes and many people confuse them for pearl danios although they are zebras and their stripes used to be so bright. I realize they are old, and that most danios only live to be about five years old, however I'm very attached and was wondering if there was anything I could do for them? At first I thought it might be a vitamin deficiency so I started giving them brine shrimp and betta pellets once a week instead of their regular flakes (I thought a variation in their diet might help), but that has not helped. I have already checked the temperature and ph levels to no avail, they are both as they've always been, within the normal range.

Hey guys so i just got some new goldfish (pearlscale) yestersday. They started gasping for air so i had to let them in he tank....right now im letting them get used to it....their still in their fishy bag and im kinda worried cuz their COLDWATER fish right? And i have only let my tank cycle for about 15-17 hours and it has a HEATER! Its not too high.....its 78 degrees F.....but it is still heating up the water(slightly)...theirs not much of a difference in the temperarure of the fishes water and the water in the tank....and my house is pretty cold cuz of the tile.....and wer in october so its pretty cold too...but im still worried.....Will they adapt...will it get too hot? And if they adapt will they be happy... I care most about their health and happiness.....i got a heater cuz im planning on getting new tropical fish in the weekend.... BTW: i heard PEARLSCALE goldfish are not supposed to be in water thats too cold..... EDIT: well actually they used to be in their bag thats why they were gasping for air..... hey thanks to all of you! my fish turned out fine! im still not ure what to do but i will figure it out later...so i didnt know who to pick so i just took a random shot butg all of u were verry helpfull and thank you!

i dreamt that a man had many big fish tanks in his house. one that was salt water, and many big, healthy beautiful awesome fishes, some rare. water was so clean and clear... he had just cleaned it. another had the tropical types i had had months ago, which i neglected and died. his were all sick, dying... he didnt loko after that tank... didnt know how, althought hey were much easier to care for than his thriving tank. dont think he oout in the effort with this one. made me very sad. gave him a little advice, but well he was a man, and wouldnt have my advice. the difference between the care and health of both tanks was amazing. the healthy one sported lare fish, (huge tank too) and the unhealthy one held smaller fish. can anyone interpret this for me? thanks to anyone who tries :) makes sense... going through a relationship thing at the moment, and putting all my eggs in one basket.... radiowww... thas fascinating... would you explain a little more about that? im very interested....

So my new 55 gallon tank is on the middle of a fishless cycle. The nitrate is just begining to go up so I figure I have at the most a few weeks left before its safe to begin adding fish. I have only been really into keeping fish for a few months. I had a nightmear with my Goldfish and almost lost her but thanks to allot of help from you guys and many hours reading on line I got her into a nice 10 gallon tank and nursed her back to health. I have a 30 gallon tank she will be going into as soon as she is strong enough and will add one more goldie to that tank. But in my 55 gallon I would like to have some differant varieties. I am wanting to stick with peaceful fish because I really don't want to deal with fights. But at the same time don't want a tank full of Tetras like you see all the time. I have wanted to get an Oscar But I know you have to be very careful what you put with them. I have though about a Gold Dojo loach with some fancy guppies and a few red velvet sword tails. Do any of you have any suggestions that would get along great and be beautiful together? Also if I go with schooling fish how many do I need minimum and how much space will they account for? Thanks all! Any other suggestions or warnings when starting my first tropical community would be welcomed too. Anything to save me the stress I went through with me Goldie!! Who by the way pretty much owes her healthy life to a user on here thanks Kylie Anne!!!!!

OK, I know the human being has a circadian rhythm which controls our waking and sleeping and is triggered by light levels causing hormone secretions. Are fish the same. I have a large 190 L tropical fish tank. I sometimes don't put the light on at all, I sometimes put it on in the afternoon or late at night. I don't leave the light of the tank on for long periods or put it on at a regular time. The fish tank is in the corner of my lounge where there is a large window so it recieves natural light. I was just wondering will this effect the health of my fish.

I have a 30G tropical freshwater tank in my bedroom, and my bedroom isn't that big, but there is windows and such in it. Once I clean my tank and leave it be, after about 4 days it starts to release a strong odor that the rest of my family can smell, but i seem to be used to the stench so i can't smell it as much but i know it's there. It smells somewhat fishy and somewhat moldy.... If im breahting this odor in while im on my computer in my room for hours or when im sleeping for 12 hours every night, CAN IT BE HARMFUL TO MY HEALTH even though i feel fine?????????????????????????????????

A couple of weeks ago I upgraded my well established 10 gallon to a 40 gallon. The transition went well, we only had 3 fish so after we were sure the water was stable we got three more. One being a black moore goldfish. I have heard a lot of mixed advice about mixing goldfish with the tropical fish but by boyfriend REALLY wanted it. It has been about a week and he has developed what looks like white patches on his side. I am assuming that it is some sort of disease and at this point don't know what to do next. The fish in my tropical community have never had any health issues and as I have had them for over a year I am concerned that they will in turn get sick. I have a one gallon tank I use for fry... should I put the moore in there... I don't know...HELP

I have a tank that consists of platys, guppies, mollies, gouramis ans swordtails , i have noticed on all 3 of my mollies they have a kind of white fur on there eyes one of the mollies has it quite bad and the other two half as bad, just about noticeable. I have got them out of the main tank and now the fish in the tank are healthy and have no problems with there eyes - 1.)what is the disease the mollies had? 2.) Will the other fish get it ? 3.) What shall i do? 4.) Is there a cure/ slolution to put in the tank ? if so how much in british pounds? Thanks danny
