Resolved Question: Please help me with my 5 gallon hexagon aquarium!?
Hi! I purchased a 5 gallon hexagon aquarium and I put a green spotted freshwater dwarf puffer in it. The puffer died, don't take me as a bad pet owner, I made the dumb mistake of buying him at wal-mart. Now I have a 5 gallon hexgon tank, and a 30 gallon tank. The 30 gallon has 2 dwarf puffers, 2 mollies, one of those bottom feeder thingy you see everywhere, and an umm crap I for got the name of it.. It's a catfish, one you find in the petstores, and 2 blue dwarf gouramis. What should I do with the 5 gallon hexagon? Okay suggestions needed! Should I get a freshwater fish, and if so, why kind? Should i get a saltwater fish, because I still have a butt load of krill and salt left, or should I get an anol lizard with millipedes or another lizard, or should I get a treefrog or some other frog? Pleas answer!! Thanks soooooooo muchhhh!!!!!! Sorry might have some spelling errors, typing on my iPod :P
Resolved Question: what fish can I get for a freshwater tank?
I am getting a freshwater aquarium and I was wondering all of the types of fish I could get....
Resolved Question: what is the right fish for my aquarium?
what type of medium sized fish that's cheap would go good in an aquarium with a black moray gold fish and colored moray gold fish? and would it be ok to put freshwater snails in there to?
Resolved Question: What are good types of freshwater fish for a 12 gallon aquarium?
I'm getting a twelve gallon aquarium, and I was wondering what types of fish would be good for a aquarium this size. Thank you for the help!
P.S. The Aquarium is the Marineland Eclipse Integrated Aquarium 12 Gallon.
Open Question: PH won't increase above 6.2ish in my freshwater community aquarium?
I have a 37 gallon freshwater community aquarium (w/ live plants) and I just can't seem to increase the PH level above around 6.2. I've used several different test kits all with the same reading. I've used several types of 7.0 ph balancers. I've also bought PH increaser liquids...they never change the reading. I have african cichlids among a couple other types of fish, so ideally I would like the tank to be around 7.0-7.5. They fish seem happy and with no signs of stress but i would still like to bump it up a bit. There doesn't seem to be any obvious probelms...amonia readings are low and water is crystal clear. Any suggestions?
Just wanted to add...never had a problem stablizing the ph to 7.0 in my old 20 gallon community tank, although that was with artifical plants. This is my first live plant tank so maybe that has something to do with it???
Resolved Question: changing from brackish to fresh water?
I need some help transitioning three freshwater fish (an angel, a danio and some type of algea eater -I didn't get a good look at it) from a brackish water tank to a fresh water tank. My nephew knew how to keep the tank clean (the brackish one) and keep the fish alive, but he passed away recently. I want to convert the tank to fresh water for his younger brother if I can so he can care for them easier.
Would changing out small amounts of water and replacing it with fresh water over a period of months so that the salinity decreases slowly work? I've got no idea how to maintain it in its present state, nothing was written down and, since I know you have to change out water for water quality sake, have no idea how to keep it brackish.
I've had a fresh water aquarium for over 10 years with minimal fish loss. I even have an original pleco that was in my original tank. If his brother doesn't want the fish I've asked to take them and incorporate them into my tank, but I don't want them to die either.
Any suggestions?
Oh and his brother is only 8 so I'm sure he isn't going to be skilled enough to maintain salinity at a constant level. That is a good suggestion that I can make to his mom though. Cleaning the tank would be a chore for him I think, even if it were only fresh water. I am going to try my hardest to teach him how to maintain it since he seems interested in it though.
Resolved Question: I wanted to add some plants to my freshwater aquarium, I don't know what to get though?
I would like two kinds of plants for my tank. i'm a beginner so i would like plants that are easy to take care of and that my fish will not eat.
I want the first plant to be something short and grass like that I can put all over the gravel floor of my tank. However, I don't want it so thick that it covers up all the sea shells i have.
The other plant I want for a background, just so you cannot see what is behind my tank.I want it to be at least 12 inches tall and not very bushy.
I would like about 3 suggestions for each plant type.
Thanks
Resolved Question: Brackish Water Tank Questions?
i have a 20 gallon long set up right now, it is freshwater right now, and i know how to set it up as brackish.
Question 1) Right now i have one Violet Goby, or Dragonfish Goby and two small Bumblebee Gobies. I want atleast two more different fish in the tank, with one or two more bumblebee gobies, what types of brackish water fish would you suggest.
Question 2) I want 1 - 3 LIVE plants set up, what types of plants would you suggest? please, not extremely hard to care for brackish plants.
Question 3) I have a freshwater filter hooked up right now, will it be fine to use with Brackish water, or should i set up a special filter.
Question 4) Most important question. I know that the fish i have right now will do good in freshwater, but they do thrive in Brackish, Should i convert to Brackish (BTW, ive only had the fish for a few days now, so they have not been in fresh water for that long). Or should i just keep it as freshwater? I really want to do a Brackish aquarium, but is it just too much trouble?
Resolved Question: What are some types of fish you could put in a 10 gallon aquarium?
Not saltwater, freshwater. I don't want little tiny ones like neon tetras or something. Also i would want to know the maximum capacity of fish in the tank. Should you buy the fish at petsmart?
Resolved Question: For an aquarium what types of freshwater fish do you recommend...?
Ok so I own a 20 gallon tank and guess what? It's empty! I'm thinking about getting fish. I'm not sure if I really will or not, but I was wondering if maybe someone who loves fish and/or is experienced with them knows what kinds of fish are the most pleasant to own. I'm basically asking for opinions.. so if you know something, do tell. thank you.
Reef Sanctuary
What was your fist Saltwater fish? For the past week as I continue to watch my tank cycle.. I keep looking at sites such as Aquarium Fish: Tropical Freshwater Fish and Saltwater Fish for Home Aquariums (http://www.liveaquaria.com) trying to get ideas on what the first fish I will purchase is. I then go to the LFS to see what their selection looks like and go do homework on anything I found that I liked. I have debated on Semi Aggressive fish or Peaceful fish but the want something that is reefsafe. I have seen a porcupine puffer, and a lion that I really liked but IIRC neither is reef safe or are with caution. Then I saw the One Fox Face which thought was cool, was thinking of maybe getting 2 clowns.. so many choices. Either way I am still not sure what my first addition to my tank will be but I am curious to see what others chose as their first addition and the size of the tank at the time and why that was their pick.... Maybe this will open up other options for me that I had not even thought of.. How do you read a refractometer I bought a refractometer for 70.00 and im having trouble understanding how to read the damn thing. I think im doing it right but i need a confirmation because the instructions that came with the damn thing arent quite clear. When i calibrate the meter with the marine saline solution it came with i noticed a darkness on the outer part where the numbers are so i moved it up until i didnt see the darkness. I then place my sample and adjust it again until i dont see any darkness on the outer part. Is this correct? I thought this would be easy but its pretty annoying looking through the scope and my readings are identical to what my hydrometer reads which is a breeze to use. Fri, 03 Sep 2010 07:58:04 GMT
