I have kept 3 freshwater tank ranging from 110g to 7g for over a year now with bi-weekly water changes and find the workload very easy. If I were to get into saltwater how much of a drastic step maintenance wise is it. Ive read a few ways to maintain one but would like to know from experienced people how they keep their tank healthy and also what size tank they have. I know the bigger the tank, the easier to maintain so I figure about 100-150g. What can I expect on a daily to weekly to monthly basis? I expect to have live rock in it but no living organisms other than fish (since I dont want to have to feed those types of things squid with a baster and what not. Thanks in advance!

Okay, so I am doing a non-harmful, extended experiment for my Extended Essay for the IB program in my school (advanced classes). To the fish stuff; I have a 20 or 30 gallon tank and I will need around 3 to 5 fish, that will be able to live with each other and in a 20/30g environment for around 4 months. These fish cannot grow too large either! I am looking for semi cheap fish (anywhere up to $15-$20). Also for the experiment, the fish must have a sense of hearing and sight. What is good for me?

Could someone recommend some pretty and colourful fish that would get along well in the same tank so i can aim to eventually have them? And what is a colourful hardy fish for starting? Also, i really like the cichlids but they can only go in a tank with other cichlids(i think) so i probally wouldn't get those.
